More than 300 guests were in attendance at the 30th Annual East Peoria Chamber of Commerce Dinner held Friday, January 22nd at the Par-A-Dice.  The evening began with a cocktail hour with entertainment by Joe Bembenek.  Vice President, Josh Graber, served as the Master of Ceremonies for the evening.  Josh is known for his various costumes at the annual dinner and this year was no different. 

The Invocation was given by Mayor Dave Mingus.  Following dinner, awards were presented to outgoing board president, Chris Hilton and retiring board member Lou Tenarvitz.  A plaque will be presented to Kevin Carter, retiring board member, at a later date.  Chris Hilton and Mayor Mingus presented John Gardner with a Special Recognition Award for his concept and work for the RiverFront Freedom Memorial located at RiverFront Park in East Peoria.  Theresa McCabe presented the Ambassador of the Year award to Steve Matheny. 

Chris Hilton introduced Rick Jeremiah as the Board President for 2010 who then introduced keynote speaker, Doug Oberhelman who spoke about Caterpillar, past, present, and future.  Mr. Oberhelman also spoke about his responsibilities with his new assignment as Chairman & CEO that will be effective in July of this year.  Rick then presented the Company of the Year Award to Builders Cash & Carry as well as the Green Company of the Year Award to Caterpillar-Americas Operations Division-East Peoria.  The culmination of the evening was when Jim McIntyre presented Bill & Jackie Harrmann with the 2009 Distinguished Citizens of the Year Award.

Bargain hunters will have more to hunt as they will soon be able to find more merchandise to browse through at the newly renovated and expanded Goodwill retail store in East Peoria. 

                                                           

Goodwill recently held a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony to celebrate the remodeling and expansion of their store in East Peoria. Located in the Community Plaza shopping strip, Goodwill will hosted a grand re-opening Saturday. The remodeled store has expanded its sales floor to almost double its original size.  The remodeling, which started in October, also added a new drive-thru window for donations.

2010 Economic Development Awards - The Edies!

The Illinois Chamber of Commerce is again teaming up with the Illinois Development Council (IDC) to present the second annual Economic Development in Illinois awards – the Edies!  The Edies honor those who imagine, design, invest, build and bring jobs, growth and prosperity to Illinois communities. It is a great opportunity to obtain positive exposure for local businesses and communities who achieved great things this past year.

They need your help to nominate worthy projects for recognition.  The awards recognize outstanding economic development projects completed in 2009 and will be given out in the following categories:

       Manufacturing Distribution/Logistics, Commercial, Technology, and Energy.

They can recognize up to three winners within each category and can award projects located in the City of Chicago, suburban Cook County/collar counties, and statewide.  Read the invitation letter to apply, fill out the nomination form and email it by 5:00 pm CST on Friday, March 19.  If you have any questions regarding this awards program or process, please call Tom Wolf (312-983-7109) at the Illinois Chamber of Commerce or Mike Lane (217-528-5230) at the IDC.
